Gangs are active on many fronts, each of which has different levels of gang involvement and needs different approaches for successful crime and violence reduction. Gangs are active on the streets, in the prisons, and in schools. They have infiltrated politics and criminal justice fields. This report discusses all of these areas. It’s the latest book on Chicago’s gangs.  Loaded with information. Find it at:

STRYVE: Striving to reduce youth violence everywhere. Interesting site aimed at reducing youth violence and offering an online training program to do just that. Find the site at:

Very cool group.  Ex gang members reaching out to the community and creating leaders to go back into gang neighborhoods using dance, rap, drama and technology.  Find their site at:

(Please note that this is not the same Gangs 101 referred to in the previous post).

This is a great website for those who want to know more about the gang lifestyle and how to resist it as an individual and as a community. The site is based in the Washington DC/Virginia area but has links that are valuable to those confronted by the gang culture nationwide. For more information go to :

This site will also allow you to get a free download of Henry Pachero’s book  Gangs 101: Understanding the Culture of Youth Violence. Here is the link:

This is a film you may want to see.  It’s not a Christian film  but it does show something of what it’s like to be out on the streets interrupting violence.  The film shows one year in the life of several Ceasefire violence interrupters, including the challenges, frustrations, and joys of the work. Information on the film can be found at:

Here’s a blog that those interested in the gang life might be interested in viewing. The blog is not for the faint of heart or those easily offended, but if you can cope, the site can be found at:

Here are two articles about last night’s Urban Dolorosa memorial service for those slain in Chicago since 2008. The include comments from Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

I attended the first Urban Dolorosa (the sorrowing city) memorial service last night at St. Sabina and it was very moving.  I attended the event in order to (1) support Chicago families that have lost children to this senseless violence, (2) to call out the people with guns and say, “stop the killing,” and (3) to ask God’s forgiveness for not doing more to stop this epidemic of death.  With this in mind, I’d like to pose the following question to you, “What are you doing to stop the madness?”  Your answer might start here. There are four more services this week. I highly recommend attendance and participation in this effort to curb or stop youth violence in Chicago. For more information on how to get involved, go to the Urban Dolorosa website at:

http://www.urbandolorosa.org/

Make a difference.  Get involved.  Stop the violence.

Crossfire is beginning  a Prayer Calendar so that our partners can be praying for gang members 356 days of the year. To get a gang member that you know on this calendar, please send us his/her name and birthday. I’d like to know is/her affiliation but that is optional. Once I have received enough requests, I’ll put the Prayer Calendar so everyone can begin praying for the gang members as they appear on the calendar. You can respond to this website with a name or to our e-mail account (ganglifechicago@gmail.com).

Please pray for Miquel Huerta who has been in Cook County jail since 2008.  Miquel (aka Sappo) is a MLD from Rockwell and North Avenue. God has plans for Miguel so please pray that God’s dreams for him will be realized

Some of you may be wondering the same thing, How do I get out of a gang? If you didn’t know who to ask or were to scared to ask, here is an answer that might help. Find it at:
